Magnetism and magnetic nanostructures

This course gives an overview of the main phenomena which determine the magnetism of matter and the properties of magnetic materials:

  • Magnetism of atoms (orbital and spin magnetic moment, paramagnetism);
  • Magnetism of matter (ferromagnetism, antiferromagnetism, indirect exchange coupling, spin waves);
  • Magnetization curves (magnetic anisotropies, domains, domain walls, micromagnetism);
  • Thin magnetic films for spintronics (exchange bias, spin transfer torque, organic spintronics).
