Jeanne Marty-Bazan

Graduated in 2025, PhD at IPCMS

My name is Jeanne Marty-Bazan, and I am currently a PhD student in theoretical condensed matter physics at IPCMS in Strasbourg. Before that, I completed the PhyQS Master’s program at the University of Strasbourg.

In addition to offering a strong core curriculum in the main areas of fundamental physics (quantum physics, statistical physics …), PhyQS provides a wide range of elective courses. This allows each student to shape their own academic path depending on what they hope to pursue later on. It’s also a great opportunity to satisfy one’s curiosity by exploring subjects that one might not get the chance to study in depth afterward. That was my case: I chose an elective in soft matter, and I’m very glad I had the opportunity to discover a field I don’t usually encounter in my current research!

Alongside the traditional coursework, PhyQS includes a one-week project where students can choose between a computational or an experimental project. I opted for the latter. Knowing I wanted to move into theory, I still wanted one last (or maybe not!) opportunity to do some experimental work. These research-oriented initiatives integrated into the academic track are a real asset of the PhyQS program, giving us a first experience of the research world before starting a PhD right after the Master’s.

The training provided by PhyQS is of excellent quality, with a teaching team genuinely committed to sharing their knowledge. Their enthusiasm creates a positive atmosphere that spreads among students and fosters a supportive environment for learning. The faculty is attentive and always ready to listen.

I wholeheartedly recommend this Master’s program!
