Killian Marin (graduated in 2025, PhD IPCMS)

After years of studies mainly focused on getting acquainted with the general concepts of almost every field in physics, the PhyQS Master’s program finally gave me the opportunity to dive deeper into my main interests: Quantum Mechanics and Condensed Matter Physics. Thanks to the detailed and advanced quantum mechanics courses, along with a wide range of électives courses, my expectations were fully met Soft Matter Physics is also well covered, but one of the most compelling aspects of the program is the freedom it gives to design your own academic path — in my case, with a focus on Condensed Matter Physics. Of course, it requires hard work, but that effort definitely pays off, even later on, as I can personally attest.

The fact that many courses are taught at IPCMS leads to a strong connection between students and research teams, creating a stimulating and enriching environment.
Although I eventually moved toward an experimental PhD in Materials Physics, this program has proven to be extremely effective in preparing young scientists for both laboratory and theoretical research work.
